A Close Call While Changing in a Stall

At one point toward the end of last semester, I had a close call with being found out by my roommate when he walked into a public bathroom while I was changing my diaper in a stall. Read on for the details. . . .

While I sometimes changed my diaper in the bathroom I shared with my roommate when he was home, I don’t think he ever realized what I was doing in there. At least, he gave no indication he did. And he was always pretty absorbed in his own world (I’d say more than most people) so it makes sense he would never figure me out.

But public bathrooms are a different beast. It’s way less private in there. Stall walls don’t reach the floor, and there’s often a substantial gap between stall doors and stall walls that’s easy to see through, even when you’re not trying to. Plus, sound travels well and echoes.

A Diaper Conversation At Dinner

A week or two ago, my family briefly talked about adult diapers at dinner. I found this very strange and interesting. I meant to write up the conversation in a post the day it happened, but it slipped my mind. Then I kept forgetting to do it until now, when instead of a super-accurate transcript of the conversation, all I can provide is a good approximation of what was said. Oh, well. Here it goes:

I think my entire family, myself included, looked up from our plates to the TV when an adult diaper commercial started toward the end of dinner. I don’t know what caused us all to look. Maybe the commercial was louder than the others. Anyway, as is a pretty usual thing for me, as soon as I realized what the commercial was for, I removed my eyes to seem disinterested.

I think a laugh from my sister was what prompted my mom to say something about the commercial, but maybe my sister didn’t laugh and she just decided to say something. What my mom said surprised me. It was something along the lines of, “I wanna get some of those.”

The Time I Almost Got Found Out

Ever since I first started buying and wearing adult diapers, I made sure to be super careful about it so my family wouldn’t find out. Despite this, I did have some close calls. Looking back, I’d only describe the closest of those close calls as “a time I almost got found out by my parents,” despite how close some of the others felt at the time.

This incident occurred just last spring, on my mom’s birthday. At the college I was attending, it was the last week of class before finals week. I woke up early to work on a project I had due later that same day. I had a lot of work to do, and not a minute to spare, so I put on one of my Certainty diapers so I wouldn’t have to get up from my computer to use the bathroom.

I’m not sure of the time because it was so long ago, but at some point my mom knocked on my door. She’d taken off work. I easily told her to come in because I had sweatpants on over my diaper. I wished her a happy birthday, and she told me she and my step-dad were about to go out. I think they were going to breakfast or brunch, but maybe they were going to a store or something.

When my mom was about to leave my room, she asked me for a hug. I was too nervous for that. I was worried she would hear or feel my diaper if we hugged. Looking back, I know there wasn’t much of a reason to be so nervous, and I realize that if I’d just hugged her everything would have been fine.

The Waistband Dilemma

One of the things about diapers that my mind has gone through many cycles on is the waistband dilemma: should I hide my diaper waistband or not?

Let me jump back in time just a little to show what I mean.

Approximately midway through the Fall semester last year, after revealing myself as a diaper lover to a friend and being accepted for it, I bought diapers for the first time in about six months. I jumped pretty quickly into wearing them to eat, to class, and in other public situations. But I told myself that it would be a bad idea to risk exposing the diaper to someone. If they saw even my waistband, they might become uncomfortable or have some other unpleasant emotional reaction, and I would have to endure whatever might come with being found out as a diaper wearer.

So, I made sure to hide my waistband as best I could. I kept a constant awareness of how my actions were moving my clothing, changing the way I moved to keep my waistband shrouded and pulling my shirt down whenever I even suspected my waistband might be in danger of being exposed. All of this caused me anxiety, in large part because it seemed like it might come off as suspicious.

Adult Diaper Sighting Today!?

Today, I went shopping with my mom at a Sam’s Club. When we first got to the store, we got a couple hot dogs and drinks and sat down to eat in the food area. Right after we sat down, I looked over to my left and something caught my eye: an adult diaper!?

A fairly young Asian lady wearing white shorts and a yellow shirt had just come into the food area. Poking out from the top of her shorts was what looked to be the waistband of an adult pull-up, something like the Abena one I recently tried.

I Got New Wipes!

Wipes are the only diaper accessory I’ve ever bought, and they’ve been worth it. Believe it or not, though, I’ve only ever bought wipes 3 times!

The first time I bought wipes, I got baby wipes from Walgreens. They were cheap and high-quality, but I can’t remember the brand name or anything. The second time I bought wipes, it was on Amazon, after much internal debate about which ones to get. In retrospect, despite all my deliberation, I was probably too inexperienced with wipes to buy online; the ones I got were bad.

I remember some of the reasons I got them. They were from a brand I’d heard of, they were marketed for adults, they seemed reasonably-priced, and they came in a large enough quantity (a box of 8 packs) that they would count toward free shipping and mean I wouldn’t have to buy more for a while.

But, oh, the frustration they caused me. They were significantly smaller than the baby wipes I’d gotten before (BABY wipes, yes, BABY wipes were larger than these), they constantly ripped when I was taking them out of the pack or—worse—during use, they were difficult to wipe with, they were significantly less comfortable than my previous wipes, and the pack wouldn’t stay open when I needed it to.

Working through so many packs of them, I began to wonder if I’d only imagined the positive experience I’d had with my first wipes.

If I’d Gone Diapered as a Kid

When I was younger, I remember reading stories online about kids coming out to their parents as diaper lovers and being accepted. In some, the parents even bought diapers for their diaper-loving child. At the time I first read them, I wanted such a thing to happen to me. If only I were brave enough to tell my parents I wanted to go back to diapers.

I’m sure most of the stories I read were made up, but their events aren’t completely unbelievable. So, thinking back on them now makes me wonder: Would I actually have been able to handle going diapered at an early age? I’ll use my imagination to try to find out.

For the sake of this thought exercise, I’ll imagine I went back to diapers in middle school. Fifth or sixth grade was when I realized non-baby diapers were a thing (and that I wasn’t the only one they appealed to), so this makes sense. Also, I’ll imagine my parents bought my diapers, since I probably would have only been able to afford the occasional pack of diapers back then.

So, in this situation, would I have been able to handle diapers? Let’s see. . . .

Worst. Diaper. Ever.

Okay, so the title of this post sounds super dramatic, but I’m not gonna “go off” on this diaper. I get why it was made and that there are probably a small number of fans of it. So, this is just a calm account of the worst diaper I ever used: Always Discreet Underwear.

I vaguely remember why I bought a pack. I was in high school, and still buying exclusively from drugstores. I’d tried most drugstore diapers already, at least all the ones that seemed like they might be good. So, I was looking to expand my experience to diapers that looked bad but might be hidden gems. Also, I was always looking for cheap diapers, and this fit the bill (I think it was actually on sale). If it were a hidden gem and inexpensive, that would be awesome. My third reason was because it’s marketed for females, and when buying a pack I wouldn’t be suspected as the user. I wasn’t in the mood for a stressful diaper-buying experience.

I won’t lie. I was genuinely excited when I got out to my car with the pack of Always Discreet. I think I always get excited, no matter what diaper I’ve bought in store or ordered online. And this time, for some reason, my excitement led me to open the pack and put one on right then and there, in my car.
